About Mrs. King
Mrs. King is in her fourth year as the Choir & Musical Theatre director at SJHS. She also teaches chorus at North Fork Middle School. Mrs. King has a passion for teaching choral music and giving students opportunities to sing at a variety of different venues including community events. She loves teaching her choir music of other cultures as well as exploring popular music and more traditional choral literature. Outside of school, Mrs. King enjoys singing in a female a cappella ensemble, Shekinah.
SJHS Ensembles
SJHS Concert Choir
- A mixed choir comprised of 9-12th grade students. Concert Choir meets during the school day as a scheduled class during General Block & B Lunch. We explore and perform music of various cultures, genres, and eras. Students have many opportunities to showcase their learning at concerts, community performances and assessment.
SJHS Musical Theatre
- This class meets during the day and is comprised of 9-12th grade students who are interesting in learning about musical theatre. Students learn history of musical theatre as well as fundamentals of singing, acting, and choreography. These skills are brought together in a musical performance at the end of the semester!
Guitar
- This course provides students with a comprehensive beginning acoustic guitar experience in performance, theory, and listening. Students have the opportunity to practice and perform individually and as a group during class. We practice together as a class to learn how to play notes and chords as well as read music. Students have independent practice time and choose some of their own songs to play. Guitars can be provided for students.
